Summer may not be here officially, but it sure felt like it over the weekend. With temperatures hanging in the 80s, I spent some time in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and it was a sight to behold- the parks were lush and green, skyline beautifully in the background, water glistening in the hot sun, and the streets bustling with tourists and locals alike.
In today’s post I want to highlight the updated denim-jacket, cut higher and slimmer for the modern man. Consider it a substitute for your go-to blazer this spring. The key here is to size down to keep things snug around the torso. Denim will stretch so consider going down a whole size.
Once you’ve found one that fits and works for you, it’s smooth sailing from there in terms of styling. Try some colored chinos or summer corduroy that contrasts with the denim-jacket. Think… higher the contrast, better the combo. You can also dress them up like I have with a shirt and tie (knit) or down with a basic tee.
After you’ve mastered that look, you can move on to denim on denim. I think most guys went weary of this look after Jay Leno circa the 90s, in his matching denim shirt and pant combo resembling a onesie. Gross. Again, the trick here is to have contrast between the top and bottom half of your outfit. A dark jacket calls for a lighter wash bottom and vice versa.
