I have made it my mission to challenge myself this fall/winter to dress practically for the frigid Chicago temps, but to do so as stylishly as possible. I know what you’re thinking, “Oh, please that is not a realistic thought, you’re going to fail miserably!” But please- hear me out, I think I found the perfect solution.
Recently, I discovered the very special knitwear brand Gudrun & Gudrun. Suddenly my challenge to be warm and cute does’t seem impossible anymore! Gudrun & Gudrun was founded in 2002 by two Faroese women. Their overall mission is simple and powerful: to create practical, warm fashionable clothing, use natural resources and to empower women. The hand-knitted collections are made in the homes of women knitters on the Faroe islands and in Jordan and Peru as a part of their women’s empowerment projects.
The dress I am wearing is a part of their 2016 Holiday collection and it is gorgeous. Don’t let the dropping temperatures have you scrambling to pull together a chic winter look. This dress is polished and cozy all at once. The simple form and dramatic detailing at the bottom makes it fashion forward- let this be your new statement dress.
This piece is perfect for layering while looking stylish- call it a knit wit. Haha! See what I did there?
I decided to edge up this very feminine piece with a leather jacket. The elevating factor? Black leather ankle boots with a chunky heel by Marc Jacobs. For more warmth and coverage later in the season, layer up with a chubby coat and tights.
A stylish knit number has been an essential on and off the runway in recent seasons- just browse through Vogue Runway street style photos, or recent collections by fashion favorite’s, Rodarte and Celine. Do not let Jack Frost get the best of you- before the temperature dips dramatically, snag this fashionable knit creation. It will bring a soft touch of whimsy to practical knitwear in a fall/winter wardrobe.
And when Chicago decides to be bipolar and treat us to the not so cold days, this dress goes great alone with a sneaker! So have no fear, a perfect knit that you can dress up or down is here! Wear to the grocery store and be an ultimate diva, or wear to your next holiday event. Lots of compliments included. 🙂
