The bomber jacket gets a major update this season with a nod to the souvenir jacket that’s rich in bold Asiatic embroidery. You may or may not be familiar with the term, ‘Chinoiserie’, but it’s French for “in the Chinese taste” and it has been making quite the statement in recent collections and in the street style scene alike. We first got a glimpse of this trend when designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, and Gucci started throwing it on pajamas, silk shirts, bombers, and even full suits. Just now is the trend trickling down to mainstream retailers and it’s selling out like crazy (I happened to snag the last small at Zara).
There is something magical about this jacket that we can’t quite put our finger on. Is it the intricate embroidery on the sporty silhouette or is it the bold colors and unique detailing? Either way, we’re fans of the trend here at The Chicago Chic. Although the chinoiserie jacket may not be for the faint of heart, when paired with a solid t-shirt and denim, you can create a distinct street-style look that’s sure to be a conversation starter.

Style Tip: Choose a solid t-shirt by picking out a color from the embroidery in the jacket to create a look that’s simple and cohesive. Also, when in doubt, a white t-shirt is a foolproof alternative.
