With all of the great events happening over the summer, one of my favorite looks this season is what I like to refer to as ‘Casual Sophistication’. It calls for a lightweight sports jacket, button-up shirt, chinos, and leather sandals. Simple outfits that are classic in concept, but updated in presentation will keep you looking sharp and put together without going overboard.
For this look I opted for my double breasted sports jacket. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you can pull off this suave-tastic piece of menswear with confidence, it will set you apart from the single and two button jackets in the crowd. Keep in mind, this isn’t you dad’s double breasted circa the 70s. Say no to dramatic shoulder pads and yes to a soft shoulder construction, stay away from boxy and aim for fitted, and lastly ditch the gold buttons and go for something more neutral.
With the recent resurgence of men getting in touch with their sartorial spirit and taking risks, I thought I would take my outfit a notch further by wearing patterned trousers. By now you should have stocked up on patterned ties and shirts, so naturally trousers will be your next step. If you choose to take the leap into the deep end, start with a pattern that’s so faint it barely looks like a pattern. As you can see from my outfit, I kept it very simple and clean up top so the trousers have some room to breath.
