Hello Everyone! I’d like to introduce you to Ms. Lauren Fern, new womenswear contributor and expert for the Chicago Chic. Lauren is a native Chicagoan, born and raised, studying Fashion Business and Merchandising at Columbia College Chicago. Lauren is a Chicago fashion socialite- she is very outspoken about Chicago’s fashion scene and has grand plans in making Chicago a top fashion destination.
When I first met Lauren, her grace and elegance immediately sparked a conversation. She reminds me a bit of Audrey Hepburn, her soft elegance but full of ambition and excitement within. Soon, I wasn’t surprised to learn that she is a huge fan of vintage glam, “I love all older Jazz Music, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzerald”. She enjoys timeless chic pieces and as a pretty good eye for it, making it mix well with contemporary pieces. Lauren is very involved with Chicago’s fashion scene- ask her about any event and she’s either worked at it or attended it.
Star Sign
Pisces. Dreamy, creative and in love with the Arts
Aesthetic
Clean yet bold and always in search for a risk. I love new, upcoming designers with fresh ideas and aesthetic. Philip Lim, Alexander Wang & Proenza Schouler.
Style
It changes from day to day depending on my mood or what’s happening around me, or simply how I want to create that day. I love simple and luxe deigns with a strong statement which is anything from MaxMara to Celine down to the classic designers. Everyday my style changes, but it’s based on simple fashion with my personal flares and touches.
June 2014: Current fashion favourites
Right now I’m really into Mary-Kate and Ashley for their line The Row. They’ve had a tremendous break through as designers and have really proved their simple form that’s well recognised in the design world. A clean & minimal style is what I find effortlessly charming and elegant for womenswear pieces. I’m also in Lanvin right now but who isn’t?
Meeting people
I love the energy I get from collaborating, meeting new people and networking. Nothing can explain the feeling of meeting new people and connecting over the common interest of the art of fashion.
Culture
Annie Hall is one of my favourite movies for fashion inspirations. She is able to pull of a very masculine way of dressing while remaining charming and feminine. Une Femme Est Une Femme by Anna Karina is also quite feminine and french. For music – I am very open to different genres, forms and kinds. It is Art! You’ll see my varying between Classic Rock (Fleetwood Mac), Indie to soft R&B. But I do like contemporary Jazz & Oldies like Sinatra & Fitzgerald… I listen to that early in the morning and you’ll see how music feeds into my personal style and appearance 🙂
Work Style & Approach
I have a very entrepreneurial spirit and always thinking of ways to provide a fashionable environment for Chicago to enjoy. I get inspired by Haute Couture and runway collections then I recreate them with my own practical and sophisticated twist that is ready for city streets.
I live, therefore I am…
I love to socialize and try new things I’ve never done before. Life is all about risks and you never know the outcome until you try. Fashion to me is my life and I try not to limit myself to a single look. I do not have one distinct style, taste or look, I have many. I love to dress and it is the way that I am able to fully express how I feel.
Where I’ve been out of the West
Italy & the UK. But I plan on exploring more of Europe soon.
