When Jenica and Dave Myszkowski invited Homepolish’s Jennifer Talbot into their Chicago 5-bedroom, 3,000 square-foot home, they were uninterested in traditional design. Channeling their individual quirks as well as pulling inspiration from Jenica’s work at Kate Spade, the three created a home that pushes the boundaries with graphics, colors, and furnishings.
One of Jennifer’s favorite spaces is the dark, glam dining room. The traditional molding was painted with Benjamin Moore’s Nightfall and the walls were covered with David Hick’s wallpaper. She particularly loves the juxtaposition of high and low with the concrete table and the Restoration Hardware chandelier.
Jennifer transformed the “dated early 90’s” kitchen into a bright modern hub for everyday family meals. A marble slab island illuminated by a brass pendant sits among stainless steel appliances.
The living room has such a great modern vibe and the pop of color offered by the watermelon coffee table is beautifully unexpected.
A four-post bed with a dark walnut stain is lightened by peach linens.
Gilded graffiti-like wallpaper adds dimension in the master bath.
Kitchen and bathroom updates were on Jenica’s definite to-do list. Paint and new flooring were top on her list too, but Jenica also expressed she wanted a space that was special and memorable. She wanted to push the boundaries of what is typical and didn’t want the design of the space to be safe, says Jennifer.
