I believe nature is man’s first remedy and that everything we need to heal from the inside out can be found there. One of the many benefits of essential oils is their incredible diversity when it comes to improving overall health and well being: physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually. When I sample peppermint essential oil with my clients for the very first time, they’re amazed at the quality of the oil and how invigorating it is but even more impressive is that it has over thirty different health benefits, from physical: improving respiratory function to emotional: supporting a buoyant heart! It is important to understand the importance of medical grade behind how the skin’s receptors have the ability to “smell” and heal itself.
In my last post, I shared why essential oil grade is so important to consider before you begin working with them so you can the benefits of essential oils in their intended form.
Next we’ll cover the diverse benefits of essential oils in greater detail. One of the many things I love about teaching the use of essential oils is how the different types of oils are like metaphors for their effect on the body, mind, spirit, and the emotions.
Trees have deep roots that travel deep into the earth, so when we imagine these strong roots, we can imagine our own legs and body being strongly rooted as well. That is why the tree oils are typically very grounding, help us to get connected to our life purpose, and support us from being too kinetic when our focus and concentration are a must. Some popular tree oils: Frankincense, Black Spruce, Douglas Fir.
These oils come from fruits (lemons, limes, oranges, etc) that require a lots of radiant sunlight for growth. Think golden rays and imagine cheer! The citrus oils are known for promoting feelings of happiness, joy, and an elevated mood and mindset. Some popular citrus oils: Wild Orange, Lemon, Bergamot.
These oils are typically distilled from the flower blossoms and when we imagine flowers, we think of blooming. The floral oils are known for supporting new beginnings, blossoming, birth, femininity. Some popular floral oils: Neroli, Rose, Jasmine
These oils are most often powerful notes that are spicy, hot, or invigorating. They tend to be protective in nature so we often use them for boosting immunity and protecting ourselves against environmental threats. Some popular spice oils: Cinnamon, Clove, Oregano.
This oil chemistry wheel from doTERRA helps you see the various effects and characteristics of the different oil categories.
Each oil has a unique chemical profile that elicits a different response in the body and supports different body systems. What’s wonderful about doTERRA is their commitment to ongoing research in aromatic science that benefits our knowledge base and allows us to continually improve our health. When you’re ready to take a deep dive, I can share some other great resources and links based on your personal priorities and health needs.
In addition to single oils like the ones mentioned above, doTERRA also makes unique proprietary blends that contain several different oils –– that when married –– serve to improve different body systems. For respiratory support, we have Breathe Oil. For immune boosting benefits, we have On Guard Oil. And there are a number of others that will likely become your favorites and not just because of their incredibly health benefits but also because they smell so amazing …and so will you when using them!
The list of benefits from using essential oils is expansive and when we say, “there’s an oil for everything,” we really do mean it. I’ve come to use them for everything under the sun in my household and support my clients in revamping their medicine cabinets and homes as well. For example, in my world, gut health can never be talked about enough and the Geranium essential oil supports the biochemical pathways of the colon.
There are oils that ease upset digestion, increase energy, improve sleep, support neurological function (memory/focus/concentration), improve skin (anti-aging/rashes, etc.), balance mood and mindset, improve oral health, ease anxious feelings, calm or prevent nightmares, reduce toxic load (cleaning products), and so much more!
When you’re ready to learn more about using essential oils safely so you can become a healer in your own home, please feel free to reach out to me so you can share more about your health priorities and then I’ll be happy to discuss next steps.
